I am a social scientist among school, college and community theater programs in south central Pennsylvania. The educational and community theater process involved in putting on a show is what captivates me. I network with the education and production staff of approximately 130 theater programs to help them grow better aware of resources that I learn about through the networking.
While most look to theater as a form of entertainment, and I am listed here under that category, my focus is the educational and community development side of it. It all boils down to much the same product in the end but I look at the process with an outsider's eye. It is a perspective that educators, funders and media sources would do well to understand.
I have a particular interest in integrating persons with disabilities, those with other challenges and those just shy about extending themselves into educational and amateur theater. Theater is not only what is seen on stage; there are roles for many hands, both those with abilities and those willing to learn.
